UT Mossman Science Laboratory Building
UT MOSSMAN SCIENCE LABORATORY BUILDING
The Ken and Blaire Mossman Science Laboratory Building at the University of Tennessee is located on the corner of Cumberland Avenue and 13th Street. It is a 222,000 SF facility designed to advance the research and teaching mission of the University, while providing a new building that will help UTK reach its goal of consistently being recognized as a Top 25 Public Research University. The departments planning to conduct research in this building including biochemistry, molecular biology (BCMB), microbiology, nutrition, and psychology. MHM provided full design and construction administration services on this project.
In order to accomplish these goals, the facility contains flexible laboratory space, laboratory support space, vivarium, shared core labs, teaching labs, general purpose classrooms, student spaces, and administrative spaces.
The exterior of the building reinforces the collegiate gothic campus style, while the interior of the building includes elements that distinguish the building as a 21st century science facility.
The building provides a variety of collaborative learning spaces and public areas are designed to support an environment of collaboration throughout. Scientific exploration is vibrantly conveyed through the interior design, creating a community of research which inspires students, faculty and visitors alike.
