PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
MHM, in collaboration with Johnson Consulting and MIG, master planned the 50-acre Moffat County Event and Fairgrounds in Craig, Colorado. Phase I, completed during the schematic design phase, features a new multipurpose arena and conference center envisioned as the largest event venue in the Yampa Valley. Designed to accommodate rodeo and equestrian events, sports tournaments, concerts, conferences, and community gatherings, the facility brings a diverse range of event functions together within a flexible regional destination.

The centerpiece is a 135-by-275-foot arena with seating for 1,800. Its concrete floor can be converted to a dirt arena to accommodate rodeo, equestrian, and livestock events, while concessions, restrooms, and covered areas for rough stock support year-round operations. The arena and one-story conference center share a prominent central lobby, creating an efficient connection between the two venues. The conference center accommodates up to 600 guests with flexible room configurations and is supported by breakout rooms, offices, a commercial catering kitchen, storage, and a VIP terrace.

Strategically located along U.S. Highway 40, the master plan integrates new development with existing fairground operations while carefully coordinating pedestrian, vehicular, and animal circulation. A new entry plaza strengthens the connection to the park and provides flexible outdoor space for events, gatherings, and expo stalls.

Future phases envision expansion onto neighboring property, including a livestock stall barn, covered warm-up arena, and improvements to existing fairground facilities. Together, the phased master plan provides Moffat County with a long-term framework for creating a versatile event and fairgrounds destination that supports agricultural traditions, expands opportunities for regional events, and contributes to the economic vitality of Craig and the surrounding Yampa Valley.
