PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
MHM, in collaboration with Johnson Consulting and MIG, designed the Horry County Rural Civic Center as the centerpiece of a 450-acre master plan in Conway, South Carolina. Planned as a regional destination for agricultural, equestrian, civic, and entertainment events, the development includes a multipurpose arena and expo hall, covered warm-up arena, four-stall barns, fairgrounds, trailer and RV parking, riding trails, a hotel, complementary commercial development, and a site for a new National Guard Readiness Center. The facility is also planned to support strategic operations during emergency events.

Phase I includes a 3,800-seat arena bowl with a multipurpose concourse and VIP mezzanine terrace designed to accommodate private events and hospitality functions. The initial phase also encompasses the fairgrounds, covered warm-up arena, and livestock barn across approximately 200 acres of the larger site.

Located in a developing area of Horry County near Myrtle Beach, the Rural Civic Center is designed to meet the region’s need for a flexible venue capable of hosting agricultural events, equestrian competitions, expos, concerts, community gatherings, and other large-scale events. Through thoughtful master planning and a diverse mix of uses, the project creates a foundation for community-focused economic development and long-term growth in Horry County.
