The Lawson McGhee Public Library is the main facility of the Knoxville | Knox County Public Library System.  Designed by McCarty Holsaple McCarty in 1970, this 67,000 SF facility includes a main reading room, open stacks for more than 70,000 volumes, a children’s library with 30,000 volumes, administrative offices, meeting rooms, and an area dedicated to the McClung Historical Collection.

Over the years, MHM was also commissioned to provide modifications and feasibility studies for the library.  The firm has performed continuous minor modifications and finish upgrades.

McCarty Holsaple McCarty completed modifications to the third floor business office and since the original design included options for adding a fourth floor, MHM completed a feasibility study to add the fourth floor.
