1982 WORLD'S FAIR
MHM was chosen to the be the Master Architect for Knoxville’s 1982 World’s Fair. The fair was constructed on a run-down site between downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee. The core of the site primarily consisted of a deteriorating Louisville and Nashville Railroad yard and depot building. MHM has been involved in many legacy projects on the fair site over the subsequent years including the renovation of the L&N Depot into Knox County’s Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics High School, the construction of an Art Museum for Knoxville, designed by Edward Larabee Barnes and later renovated by MHM, the construction of Knoxville’s Convention Center and many landscape improvements for the site to serve as a key city entertainment area for concerts and festivals.
