YEAR:
1982

LOCATION:
Knoxville, TN

SIZE:
70 Acres

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
MHM was chosen as the Master Architect for the 1982 World’s Fair held in Knoxville, Tennessee. The fair was constructed on a run-down site between downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee campus. The site's core primarily consisted of a deteriorating Louisville and Nashville Railroad yard and depot building.

MHM has been involved in many legacy projects on the fair site over the subsequent years, including the renovation of the L&N Depot into Knox County’s Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics High School, the construction of the Knoxville Museum of Art, designed by Edward Larabee Barnes and later renovated by MHM, the construction of Knoxville’s Convention Center, and several landscape improvements for the site to serve as a main entertainment area for concerts and festivals in the city.
