PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
MHM partnered with Visit Knoxville on the interior renovation of the Knoxville Visitors Center, reimagining the 3,000-square-foot space to reflect the city's energy, growth, and evolving identity. Serving as the “front door” to downtown Knoxville for decades, the Visitors Center welcomes tourists and locals alike, offering destination information, retail shopping, and daily live music. As Knoxville continues to grow and evolve, the refreshed Visitors Center creates a vibrant, authentic experience while preserving the character of the space.

The interior design focused on strategic, high-impact improvements to enhance functionality, strengthen visual identity, and create a more welcoming experience. The first-floor renovation simplified the existing layout, establishing a cohesive environment that accommodates the Visitors Center's diverse programming. Streamlined wall geometries and a reoriented reception desk create a more open and inviting lobby. At the same time, improved circulation, flexible gathering areas, and updated amenities support everything from everyday visitor interactions to live music performances and community events.

Developed alongside Visit Knoxville's brand refresh, the design creates a stronger connection between the organization's identity and its physical environment. Thoughtful material selections, custom details, and partnerships with local makers and creatives maximize the impact of the investment while bringing an authentic sense of Knoxville into the space. A custom mural by local artist Curtis Glover introduces vibrant color and visual interest while celebrating the city's creative community.
