As part of the City of Maryville’s master development plan for downtown, McCarty Holsaple McCarty was hired to design a pedestrian bridge to span across Pistol Creek. This bridge is an integral part of the downtown linkage program, connecting the Blount County Public Library to the city’s greenway trail and cross-town pedestrian path to the Maryville College campus.
The bridge successfully integrates the brick, precast concrete and aluminum handrail details of the library into a seamless extension that floats across the Pistol Creek embankment. The total span of the bridge is 226 feet and cost $778,000. The project was completed in 2005.
