The new 63,383-square-foot Blount County Public Library was constructed four times the size of the prior facility to accommodate expanding services and programs for this growing community.
The library includes special areas for children, genealogy, adults and youth. Public meeting rooms that can be secured separately from the library areas are at the front of the building. A café is featured in the central streetscape of the facility.
The library is a link and gathering place for the communities of Maryville, Alcoa and Blount County – a symbol of excellence for all of the citizens.
Special design features include a 30’ high clerestory space serving as a central street and main circulation through the library. Skylights and window seats bring ample natural light into comfortable reading areas dispersed throughout the library. The exterior of the building is brick, marble and aluminum, all representing materials local to Blount County. A clock tower with lantern provides landmark status to this important community center.
