To respond to an ever growing customer base, Hallsdale-Powell Utility District hired McCarty Holsaple McCarty to help program, plan and design a new administrative and operations complex on its current site in North Knox County.
As a water utility facility, the owner was concerned about the water resources and wanted this facility to be an example for water conservation. The site design features pervious paving, rain gardens, and a cistern to collect roof water for irrigation. Through sun shading devices which offers an energy efficient building envelope, building orientation and reflective and vegetative roof, the building can be efficiently conditioned with a geothermal heat pump system.
The MHM team worked closely with the utility district management to program the needs for the updated facility, assess the current and future operational requirements and develop a phasing plan for construction that will keep HPUD operational during the process.
